What to Read Next?

The Uncommon Reader: A Novella by Alan Bennett is a charming and imaginative take on the Queen catching the reading bug.  The beginning of an addiction is detailed, and the surprising effect of her majesty's reading tastes bring surprising repurcusions for her, and for her realm.   Grab it--it's fun!

Of course the Queen would have many ways to get recommendations on what to read next, from staff to international leaders to a myriad of authors.  This little book provides ideas for we the "common" readers.

But there are many other resources to offer suggestions as well.  Look in Dewey Decimal section 011.73 and 028.1 for books to guide your choices:  Book Lust by Nancy Pearl, Recommended Reading: 500 Classics Reviewed and The World's Best Thin Books by Joni Richards Bodart are all jam-packed with excellent reads.

Then there are the high tech reading advisors.  Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other book store sites often make recommendations for similar-ish books when you search a title.  We have another source that the Merrimack Public Library offers our cardholders called NoveList.  You can input genre, setting, pace, or read-alike authors.  NoveList is also great at listing what comes next in a series.  You will find it under Databases on our website.  Let me know what you enjoyed as your next good book...
