Spring has Sprung! Let's Start Some Seeds!

Volunteers from the Merrimack Community Gardens will lead a hands-on workshop on how to start vegetable and flower seeds indoors to jump-start the growing season. The workshop will be on Tuesday, March 27, at 7 pm.

Starting seeds in your home allows gardeners to grow varieties not ordinarily found in local retail stores or greenhouses. Growing plants saves money and is a fun project for the whole family. Attendees will learn the basics of starting seeds:

  • reading seed packages
  • learning about different varieties of seed and when to start seeds
  • reviewing the various containers and soils mixes available
  • understanding water, temperature, and light requirements
  • transplanting seedlings into larger pots
  • moving plants outdoors

  • This workshop is open to Merrimack adults and children age 6+ with an adult. Prepare to get your hands dirty or bring gardening gloves. Space is limited to 30 participants; registration is required for planning purposes. Go to our calendar, email, call 424-5021 to register.

The event is co-sponsored by the Merrimack Agricultural Commission and the Merrimack Library.
