Meet Author Edie Clark

For our 2011 One Book, One Town month, we have chosen States of Grace: Encounters with Real Yankees, by Edie Clark. Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk, but whether or not you read the book, you are invited to meet Edie Clark at 7 pm on Wednesday, October 19. This will be a "Special Edition" of our monthly book discussion.

Readers of Yankee Magazine will recognize Edie as a long-time contributor. Her in-depth stories have taken her more than a million miles and worn out 9 cars, as she says on her website, and it's hard to imagine even a single issue without a captivating story by Edie. It's like inviting an old friend into your kitchen each month for a sit-down and a cup of tea.

In addition, she writes a monthly essay at the very back of each issue. Called Mary's Farm, it is a bucolic look at the place she calls home, a Monadnock-region farm once owned by a woman named Mary. Reading her essays just makes you want to adopt her lifestyle for yourself.

Besides her work for Yankee, Edie is the author of several other books, including The Place He Made, the story of the life and death of her beloved second husband; Saturday Beans and Sunday Suppers: Kitchen Stories from Mary's Farm, and The View From Mary's Farm, a collection of her essays. And that's not all.....but I'll let you check out her website for the whole story. For a writer who started on a portable Underwood at the age of 9, Edie has had a remarkable writing career.

Edie is Contributing Editor for Yankee Magazine. She teaches writing and has taught many workshops. She has taught in the MFA program at Emerson College in Boston and currently teaches at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge.

We recommend reservations for this program. You can register here, call 424-5021, or email.
