SNHU's Shapiro Library withdraws from GMILCS, Inc.

The Shapiro Library at Southern New Hampshire University has withdrawn from GMILCS, Inc. Shapiro Library was one of the founding members of GMILCS more than 20 years ago. We are sorry to see Shapiro withdraw, but we understand that the university's needs for an integrated library system are more sophisticated than those of a public library, and SNHU must do what's best for its students. Nevertheless, we're sorry to see the relationship end.

What does this mean to you? While Shapiro's holdings will continue to show in our catalog until June 30, you can no longer place holds yourself or use your Merrimack PL card at the Shapiro Library. Ask an MPL reference librarian to place holds on your behalf for pickup at Merrimack PL. If you have questions about this change, please ask at the MPL Reference Desk.

Here's a little refresher about what GMILCS is and why Merrimack PL's membership is so important: GMILCS is a non-profit consortium of nine public and (now) two academic libraries which was established as a resource-sharing organization to make all of the member libraries stronger and more effective in serving our communities. With a combined catalog, a common borrower card, and shared purchase of a core collection of online research products, we can all offer a level of service that each of us would be unable to provide alone.

We will continue to work with Shapiro to bring its resources to our patrons through the traditional interlibrary loan process. We look forward to continued cooperation with our friends at SNHU.
