A Holiday Weekend and New Library Hours

We've got a gorgeous, hot, holiday weekend starting. We hope you have a safe and fun July 4th celebration. Be sure to take in all the festivities Merrimack has planned for Sunday. It will be a great day for pancakes, parades, and fireworks. The library will be closed Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Beginning next week, the library will also have slightly different operating hours. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday will remain the same. Wednesday hours will be shortened to 1 to 9 pm, and when regular hours resume in the fall, we will continue to close at 1 pm on Saturday and will be open 1 to 5 pm on Sunday again. The new hours have been posted at the front door and on our website.

The change in hours is due to a budget cut for FY2011. Over the course of three years, we have lost a significant number of staff hours, while library usage has increased. Now the budget can no longer support 68 hours of weekly service.

It is our hope that this loss of 8 hours can be corrected in July 2011. It all depends on the town budget, the economy, and things like that which we can't control but can only respond to. During the remaining 60 hours, you can expect the same great service you already enjoy. And that's something to celebrate.
