Merrimack author Niki Karavasilis will join us on Tuesday, May 18 at 7 pm to talk about her 2006 The Abducted Greek Children of the Communists: Paidomazoma, the true story of 28,000 Greek children abducted by the Communist rebels during the Greek civil war. The children were taken behind the Iron Curtain and dispersed to be raised by other families. Why did this happen, and what were their lives like, separated from their families as they grew to adulthood?
The story focuses especially on one girl, Dora, and her mother, who spent years searching in vain for her lost daughter. The presentation includes a DVD that illustrates the story.
This program gives you not only a chance to hear a local author, but also an opportunity to learn more about this troubling event in the history of modern Greece, a country much in the news these days.
Seating is limited, and registration is recommended by clicking here or calling 424-5021.
