The Chop Shop Struts Its Stuff

Check out the Chop Shop Team 166. This is one awesome group of teens! The team represents Merrimack High School at the regional FIRST Robotics Competition at the Verizon Wireless Arena each year. They also sponsor a local FIRST competition called Mayhem in Merrimack and mentor local teams in the FIRST Lego League.

The team will visit the library on Wednesday, May 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm to demonstrate this year's project and talk about their experiences at the competition, which attracts teams from all over New England. Each team designs and builds a robot that then competes in a game. At this year's competition, the Chop Shop won the Johnson & Johnson Gracious Professionalism Award, which celebrates the highest ideals of FIRST.

FIRST is the brainchild of Bedford inventor Dean Kamen, famous for his many inventions, including the Segway. It was created to foster a love of technology in students and to encourage them to seek careers in science and technology. Through their participation in FIRST, students develop skills involving teamwork, creativity, problem solving, self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

We hope you will join us on May 26. No registration is needed.
