Academy Awards

Sunday night Hollywood hosted its biggest award show and I heard a couple of interesting comments. When Tina Fey was presenting the Best Original Screenplay award, she said, “Great movies begin with great writing.” How true! Whether inspired by a screenplay or a book, all movies begin with the written word, and continue with scripts and storyboards.
Later, when Kathryn Bigelow was accepting the Best Director award for The Hurt Locker, she gave thanks to Mark Boal, a journalist in Iraq, who “wrote such a courageous screenplay” and “risked his life for the words on the page.”
