Teaching Tolerance

Please join us for “Understanding the Middle East” with Merrimack High School language teacher Mohamed Eddefaa on Tuesday, September 9 at 7 p.m. Stretching from Morocco to Turkey, the Greater Middle East comprises a diverse range of cultures, ethnic groups and civilizations. Recent years have seen the region experience significant political, cultural, social and religious events. Many misconceptions and stereotypes about this region exist to this day. This presentation helps to promote cultural awareness and tolerance through understanding the history, societies and true values of the Middle Eastern cultures.

Eddefaa, a native of Morocco, came to the U.S. in 2001. A recent news story told of the trials his family faced as they tried to put down roots in the wake of 9/11. Eddefaa was the 2008 winner of Merrimack High’s NoBell Prize, awarded each year to an outstanding but underappreciated teacher. The program is free and open to all. Seating is limited and registration is recommended. Call 424-5021 or email mmkpl@merrimack.lib.nh.us to save your seat.
