The Universal Lending system that began on March 17 has resulted in an amazing amount of lending and borrowing among GMILCS libraries (Greater Manchester Integrated Library Cooperative System). There was an immediate influx of items to fill the requests pending on our patrons’ records. Likewise, many of our library’s materials were sent to other libraries, once Merrimack patron requests had been filled.
Our patrons are finally able to make a request at the Merrimack Public Library or from home, using their library card number and a four-digit pin. While on the library’s homepage http://www.merrimack.lib.nh.us/, click on Catalog, then on All GMILCS Libraries. When you find something in the catalog you would like to borrow, click on Request Item. You will then be prompted for your Borrower ID, which is your library card number. The PIN# is four numbers that you have chosen and have on your library registration (ask at library for information). There are some items that cannot be reserved in this manner, so if you get a message saying, “Please contact your library to obtain this item,” call us at 424-5021 and ask for the reference department or email interlibrary loan at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. If you don’t see what you need, contact us and we will try our best to get it for you.
Borrowing is much more fun and productive when we have the collections of 9 public libraries, 1 branch library, and 2 academic libraries available to us. The only problem is keeping up with all wonderful books, DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks that arrive for us!
