One of the fun things about my job is that I get to select books for the library. Sometimes it is easy to decide and sometimes it is not. We read many different review journals here to determine the merits of a book when considering it for the collection.
We also take requests. Patrons are often surprised to find out how willing we are to do this for them. We still consider the the value of the book to the library's overall collection, but for the most part we do end up getting a high percentage of the books that are requested directly by our patrons. I think it's a good situation for everyone. We get direct input to make the people we serve happy. The patrons get the satisfaction of knowing that their recommendations are being listened to and taken seriously.
